Hyundai recently launched the Grand i10 Nios in India. The Grand i10 Nios is third-gen iteration of the i10 and takes on one of the most established names in the Indian car market, the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The new Grand i10 Nios is a feature-packed premium product but does it have enough to make it a better proposition than the Swift? We find out by pitting closely priced variants of the two against each other.

What Swift Gets Over Grand i10 Nios: LED tail lamps, ISOFIX child seat anchors, roof antenna, tilt-adjustable steering.

Verdict: The Swift is the more expensive option here, and also the one with slightly more features. And despite it being Rs 15,000 more expensive the the Grand i10 Nios, the Maruti hatchback is the better pick because it gets ISOFIX points to mount a child seat and tilt-adjustable steering.

Verdict: The Swift is more expensive in this case despite the Grand i10 Nios having more valuable features. We appreciate the Swift packing ISOFIX child seat anchors compared to Nios. However, in the battle between the entry-level automatic variants, the Grand i10 Nios emerges as the winner as it offers better value.

Verdict: The Grand i10 is the more expensive option here, and that too by a premium of Rs 22,000. However, the amount of kit on offer in the Hyundai makes it a better alternative to the Swift. The Grand i10 is definitely the more value-for-money package of the two and the premium over the Swift in this case is more than justified.

Verdict: Priced at a premium of Rs 22,000, the Swift is more expensive this time. It offers quite a bit of kit that is not present on the Grand i10 Nios. the Hyundai hatchback too offers features that are equally important and are not present in the Maruti Swift. What pulls it in favour of the Grand i10 Nios is the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.

Common features (over previous variants): Adjustable rear head rests,  cargo area lamp, rear wiper and washer, LED DRLs, projector head lamps, reversing camera, touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice recognition  and push-button stop-start with smart key. 

What Grand i10 Nios Gets Over Swift: Rear AC vents, impact-sensing auto door unlock, front projector fog lamps, roof rails, shark fin antenna, 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, cooled glove box, chrome on door handles and wireless phone charging.

Verdict: The Swift ZXi+ comes out as a feature-rich offering but the Rs 39,000 premium over the Grand i10 Nios doesn’t justify those additions when compared to the goodies on offer in previous goodies. The Hyundai hatchback is the winner in the battle of the top-spec petrol variants with a manual transmission.

Verdict: The Swift costs a premium of Rs 33,000 over the Grand i10 Nios in this case and that does not justify the additional features it has on offer. The Grand i10 Nios wins the entry-level diesel variant battle. However, if you have a child and plan on installing a child seat, pick the Swift as it offers ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Verdict: While the Grand i10 Nios offers better features, the Swift is the one that it offers value for money in this case. The Rs 35,000 premium for the Hyundai hatchback is a bit of an overkill considering the features it offers over the Swift.

Verdict: The Grand i10 Nios, though more expensive, offers features that are worth the premium and will help in day-to-day driving. If your budget permits, pick the Grand i10 Nios over the Swift in this case.
