The partnership will help impart specially designed curriculum and on-the-job training to students
India’s second-largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) today launched its partnership with the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in West Bengal, in partnership with the Ramakrishna Mission ITI at Narendrapur, Kolkata. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative comes after the South Korean car firm joined hands with Chandigarh Polytechnic College (CPC), to enhance education standards in line with the latest technologies, in November 2016.
Committed to contributing towards the Government of India’s Skill India initiative, HMIL had recently announced a collaboration with 25 ITIs in the country. Just like the tie-up with CPC, HMIL says that the main aim of this CSR initiative is to ensure the development of the community through the enhancement of education standards with the use of latest technologies.
To impart efficient education, HMIL will offer students a specially designed curriculum, training material, car, gearbox, engine, and other learning aids. This is because getting to see, unscrew and then putting everything back on an actual working machine will help students gain practical knowledge, which is vital once they are equipped with the theoretical know-how. The course content developed by the carmaker will be part of the syllabus of the institute’s second year students who have enrolled for the Motor Mechanic Vehicle (MMV) programme.
HMIL says that the course structure will offer students much-needed exposure to modern automobile technologies which, once they apply for jobs, will help increase employment opportunities and prospects. Additionally, the car firm will also impart On Job Training (OJT) at its dealerships, which will add practical experience and help hone students’ domain knowledge further.
This isn’t the first time that Hyundai has joined hands with ITI. The pilot programme was launched in 2012 across five locations, and the results were very promising. Almost 95 per cent of the students who graduated from the Skill Development Program (2012-2015) were hired by Hyundai dealerships in 2016. The company says that the programme has already benefited over 1,000 students who enrolled for the specialised course across the country in centres located at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Sangli, Dehradun, Ludhiana, Vizag, Cochin, Sonepat, etc.
