Hyundai world debuts the production version of its India bound compact SUV – ix25 at the Chengdu Auto Show in China. The concept version of ix25 was shown at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and is reportedly entitled to go on sale on October 10th in China. Recently, the compact SUV was spotted in India doing test rounds. India launch is expected in the first half of next year and it is certainly the next big launch from the Korean auto major.
On the design front, the ix25 features second iteration of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design – Fluidic 2.0. The overall profile resembles Hyundai's recent offering like Grand i10, Elite i20 and its big brother – Santa Fe. Adding to the flair, the compact SUV features projector headlamps, day-time-running-lights, large chrome plated grille, all-around body cladding and wrap-around taillamps.
Speaking about the interiors, ix25 features Santa-Fe-esque layout. The China version gets an all-black interiors while we can expect dual-tone black-beige treatment. Instrumentation cluster is plain and simple while it gets a new three-spoke steering wheel unlike Hyundai's on sale in India. Furthermore, the central console gets a large touch screen infotainment system, expect reverse park camera assistance and navigation to be built-in.
Reportedly, ix25 might borrow its powertrain from Hyundai Verna; the 1.6 liter CRDI produces 126bhp and 260Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission. The petrol 1.6 VTVT gathers a modest 121bhp and 155Nm of max torque. This engine is mated to a manual transmission but it also offers a 4-speed auto box; the facelifted Verna in Russia gets a new 6-speed auto. The compact SUV might get an auto box giving it an edge over its major rivals Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
