Not much hyped brands-Jaguar, Land Rover and Ssangyong are making the best of their efforts to get noticed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. An event which needs no introduction to tycoons like Volkswagen, Porsche, Skoda, Mercedes, BMW and Audi is also featuring new cars by not-so-popular brands. Jaguar showcased a concept sports car Jaguar CX16 to compete with the very popular Porsche 911. Jaguar’s attempt at outbeating the newly launched Porsche 911 carrera sports car is definitely bravado’s task. Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director at Jaguar said that the company has rejuvenated its core for over the last 6 years with cars such as XJ, XF and XK and it was the right time to bring in a two-seater sports car.

Korean SUV maker Ssangyong which has tied with Indian firm Mahindra & Mahindra had just returned to the England market leaving behind its troubled past. After its acquisition by M&M, it came forward as a tiger and showed off the concept XUV 1 crossover utility vehicle. Albeit little was seen as getting interested in the brand while the show was on, it can and should be regarded as the Korean carmaker’s boldest step yet. Pawan Goenka, President (automotive sector) of Mahindra and Mahindra place his confidence in the Korean company by saying that their target for Ssangyong was to sell 1,20,000 units and M&M was pretty much on track.
