The Kia Sonet is a hotly anticipated SUV that will slot itself into the sub-4 metre SUV segment. With the arrival of this SUV, we expected the bar to be raised but didn’t have the details for exactly how high it would go. We now have an idea with these latest spy shots that reveal the interior of the Sonet for the first time.
At first glance, you’ll notice that the Sonet’s interior looks quite similar to that of the Seltos. The steering wheel design is identical. The infotainment system’s touchscreen display extends from the instrument cluster like in the Seltos. The push start/stop button next to the steering wheel and the various adjustment buttons next to it look like they have been lifted straight from the Seltos. Even the automatic gear lever looks like it has been taken from the Seltos. An interesting observation here is that the Sonet gets a button for switching parking sensors on and off. Since rear parking sensors are now mandatory by law, we can only assume that the button is for front parking sensors.
The Sonet isn’t just a smaller Seltos though, it has some distinct characteristics too. While the instrument cluster and touchscreen layout might be similar to the Seltos, the design of the part digital instrument cluster is different. The aircon vents feature a vertical design compared to the Seltos’ horizontal ones.
Apart from the exciting design, a Bose sound system is visible on the far left door, indicating the Sonet will be similarly specced as the Seltos. We also expect a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, and a sunroof to be present on the Sonet.
A look at the Sonet’s interior has also given us an idea as to what its variant list will read like. The steering wheel can be seen featuring a GT Line badge, which indicates that the Sonet, just like the Seltos, will be offered in GT Line and Tech Line trims. The red stitching seen on the door panel and the left passenger seat reaffirms that the Sonet will be getting a GT Line variant.
The Kia Sonet will be available with three engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel, all of which are offered with the Hyundai Venue as well. It will also get the intelligent manual transmission that recently debuted on the Hyundai SUV. To know more about its engine and transmission options, head here.
The Sonet’s exterior has also been spotted previously. Head here to see what it looks like. We expect the Sonet to be priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 11.5 lakh and in that space, it will compete with the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XIV300 and, of course, the Hyundai Venue. The official unveiling is scheduled for August 7 and it will likely be launched in September.
