The automaker is likely to reveal the details of the made-in-India Compass on April 12.

Jeep enthusiasts who are eagerly waiting for the introduction of the new Compass in the Indian market, we have some good news for you. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India is organising its first press event related to the Jeep Compass on April 12, 2017. The automaker is likely to reveal the details of the made-in-India Compass at the event.

The Compass will be Jeep's first product to be manufactured at the FCA's plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. It will also be manufactured in China, Brazil and Mexico and will be sold in more than 100 countries, with India being the only location for the production of the right-hand–drive variant. Apart from the date, no details have been revealed so far.

The international version of the Compass was unveiled in September last year and it has also been spotted testing in India. The car is likely to be launched in June 2017 and its price is expected to hover around the Rs 18-20 lakh mark. Although globally the Compass will be offered with 17 different powertrain combinations, the India-spec SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.4-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine, both coupled to a six-speed manual transmission with an optional nine-speed automatic.

The feature list includes LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, 3.5/7-inch LED driver information display (DID) in the instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and more than 70 active and passive safety and security features. The compass will compete with the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and other premium SUVs in the country.

Jeep officially entered the Indian market last year with the introduction of the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler Unlimited and the Grand Cherokee SRT. However, all three SUVs are directly imported as CBUs and the most affordable among these still costs above Rs 70 lakh. With the launch of the Compass, more people will be able to afford a Jeep.
