-
The test mule spotted resembles an SUV in shape and the KUV100 in size.
-
It is expected to fall in the same segment and price range as the KUV100 NXT.
-
It could be powered by Mahindra’s 1.2-litre mFalcon petrol engine.
-
No diesel engine for the entry-level model according to Mahindra’s announcement.
-
Likely to get a new name and is expected to replace the KUV100.
While all eyes were on the new Thar getting its legs dirty in the mud, there was something else tiptoeing in the background. It looked like a micro-SUV test mule, and could be the heir to Mahindra’s current offering in the segment: the KUV100 NXT (originally the KUV100).
If you strain your eyes just enough, you might be able to spot it in the background past the 45-second mark. If it is indeed a micro-SUV, expect it to be powered by Mahindra’s 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 petrol engine, currently seen in the KUV100NXT, which produces 82PS and 115Nm. Mahindra has announced that its entry-level offerings will be petrol-only ones.

Features on board could include a touchscreen infotainment system with Mahindra BlueSense, auto climate control, and steering-mounted controls along with safety features such as ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, and airbags.

In terms of design, there is not much that can be visible even after much straining, except that it has the looks of a Mahindra SUV, though not the size. No, in that department it actually resembles the KUV100 NXT. We are sure that further details will follow this cameo in the coming months, with a possible 2021 launch.

If Mahindra does have a project in the works, it will face stiff competition from the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the upcoming Tata HBX, and hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift. It is expected to get a price range similar to the KUV100 NXT, starting from Rs 5.5 lakh onwards. The micro-SUV, despite being a replacement for the KUV100, could feature a different name.
