Mahindra has given the Quanto a much-needed mid-life makeover. Yesterday, the Indian auto giant launched the NuvoSport compact SUV, which will compete against the likes of the Vitara Brezza, the Ford EcoSport and the TUV300.
Pricing
Prices for the NuvoSport start at INR 7.35 lakhs . We expected it to be priced even more aggressively. Currently, the TUV300 seems like a much more value-for-money proposition. At a juncture where Ford has slashed the prices of the EcoSport and Maruti has pulled off a near perfect price for the Brezza, premium pricing for the Mahindra might not have been the best idea. Bookings for the SUV are underway at Mahindra dealerships as well. Let’s take a look at the features on offer:
Engine Specifications
Name | mHawk100 |
Capacity (cc) | 1,493 |
Power (hp) | 101 |
Torque (Nm) | 240 |
Mileage (kmpl) | 17.45 |
Transmission | 5-Speed Manual/ 5-Speed AMT |
The sub-compact SUV market is largely diesel driven. The NuvoSport gets a single diesel engine, producing 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. The motor is identical to the mHAWK motor found on the TUV300, retuned to produce more power. There is no petrol motor on offer yet. That said, we do not rule out chances of the same.
Like the TUV300, the NuvoSport too features an optional AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). What Mahindra has effectively done is provide the consumer a more powerful automatic compact SUV. It is key to note that the two Mahindras are the only ones in the segment to offer a diesel-automatic combo. As of now, it is only the Ford EcoSport that features a petrol motor. Maruti is set to join the fray later this year with a BoosterJet version of the Brezza.
Features list
Mahindra is known to load its cars to the brim with features. Sadly, this isn’t the case with the NuvoSport. The Maruti Vitara Brezza continues to reign supreme in the features department. Let’s take a look at how the NuvoSport fares against its rivals:

The NuvoSport does just enough to justify its price tag. Mahindra could have used this opportunity to distinguish it from the TUV300 by including features such as automatic climate control and rear AC-vents. The Brezza seems to give the best bang for your buck, because of the sheer number of features it packs. On the safety front, it is still the EcoSport that ensures peace of mind thanks to the six airbags. Which one would you choose? Let us know in the comments section below!
