Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) wins Special Jury Award in the Productivity Category at the Excellence Awards for Innovation and Creative Automation

Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), Mahindra’s world class engineering and research and development centre in Chennai added another feather to its cap as the Central Manufacturing Engineering Team from MRV represented by Hudson Thomas, K.M. Sharma and Shankar Rangarajan bagged the Special Jury Award in the Productivity Category for their project on ‘Frugal Kitting Concept in XUV 5OO TCF Door Sub Assembly Line’. The ceremony took place at the 2nd edition of Excellence Award for Innovation and Creative Automation held at the Automotive Engineering Show in Pune on April 27, 2012.

Organised by Automation Industry Association (AIA), this award aims to celebrate achievements and experience of plant managers using Automation creatively in their manufacturing processes. In addition to that, the MRV Construction Project won the National Safety – the Prashansa Patra Award in recognition for developing and implementing effective management systems and procedures and for achieving good performance in occupational safety and health. The award was presented to team by the Union Minister for Labor and Employment, Government of India, Mallikarjun Kharge, at a ceremony held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on October 19, 2011.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajan Wadhera, Chief Executive — Technology, Product Development and Sourcing, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “These awards bear testimony to the fact that MRV is a truly focused on developing products based on technology-driven innovations. Such awards are milestones in strengthening Mahindra’s commitment to technology and innovations”. He further emphasized that Mahindra will continue to strive towards achieving many such milestones in the process of developing world class products which in line with our global aspirations.

With all design and R&D facilities located in a single place at Mahindra World City, India's first fully planned and integrated business city, MRV encourages a collaborative approach, permitting direct knowledge transfer between various teams. Design Centre

Integrated design groups operate with cross functional team members representing diverse groups such as design, manufacturing, marketing, vendor development and R&D, etc. Simultaneous engineering is being promoted by co-locating them and thus, the product development time will be significantly reduced. By forming such teams, teamwork would be initiated right from the very beginning, thus reducing interdepartmental barriers. Dedicated teams would be working on specific models or platforms and would be responsible for the project from concept to production.

Engine Development Centre

The Engine development Centre will house groups addressing various issues involved in the development of engines. These groups would design, modify, develop, calibrate and evaluate existing as well as new engines for various performance, reliability, durability, legislative and customer requirements. This centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art software and hardware to facilitate accelerated development of competitive power plants with emphasis on reduction in emission. The centre also includes prototype building and testing of engines.

NVH Lab

The NVH Lab has been set up at MRV after extensive benchmarking with global auto manufacturers and will have a Semi Anechoic Chamber for Chassis Dyno, PTO Dyno, Modal Room, Sound Quality Room, etc.
