Mahindra to launch Ssangyong SUV's in India

India based utility vehicle giant Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to bring the global portfolio vehicles of South Korean Ssangyong Motors in the Indian market after completing the acquisition process by this year end, as stated by a top executive of the company. Though after the acquisition, the company will retain Ssangyong Motors as a separate entity, but it is eying to launch a new SUV on the Korando platform by the end of this year.
Mr Pawan Goenka, president and CEO at M&M said in a statement given to a leading Indian news daily that the company would look at products to complement its existing range in India. He added that Ssangyong vehicles are priced upwards of Rs 12 lakh, a level where M&M’s flagship Scorpio SUV price band ends, making way for a perfect product synergy in the Indian market.
Ssangyong Motors is among the smallest car makers in the South Korean market and sells some of the lowest-priced vehicles in the country. The company's domestic portfolio includes SUV's like Kyron and Actyon and a premium sedan under Chairman marquee. With the acquisition of Ssangyong, M&M is eying on becoming a global force in the SUV segment. At present, Mahindra sells some of the most popular utility vehicles in the Indian market including Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Xylo.
Meanwhile, the company is also planning to increase the production of its most popular SUV, Mahindra Bolero in India due to a steep rise in its demand in the rural market of the country. The company is currently witnessing a heavy capacity crunch in the manufacturing of Bolero model. With this, the company is also increasing its presence in the tractor segment by establishing a greenfield plant in India along with a total annual manufacturing capacity of 1 lakh units.
