The labour unrest at the Manesar plant began on August 29th, when the Maruti Suzuki India management has asked the workers to sign the good conduct bond before entering the company premises. The ‘good conduct bond’ came into picture when the workers at the plant deliberately attempted to create quality issues to hamper production. In a protest against the good conduct bond, the workers staged an agitation against the management. The good conduct bond requires the workers to agree on not indulging in sabotaging activities or causing slowdown in work or calling strikes in the factory. With many failed attempts between the workers and the management to agree on the good conduct bond, the workers have finally relented today to bring an end to the agitation by going ahead with the bond.

On the other hand, the management has apparently agreed to take back the 18 trainees, but refused to reinstate the 44 regular employees. The disciplinary action against the 44 employees who were responsible to hinder the production at the plant has been taken and they will remain suspended. This is to press the point that the company will not tolerate any indiscipline in the factory premises. The production at both the plants at the Manesar facility are reported to reach the normal levels including the best-selling model Maruti Swift and the operations on the other models Maruti A-Star and Maruti SX4 are also said to have resumed.
