Maruti Ciaz is creating quite a buzz lately with news popping out that the Ciaz concept based sedan will be introduced in the fall of this year around festive season. Nothing is specific as of now – but the car will definitely land this year. Maruti Suzuki showcased Ciaz concept at the Auto Expo last month, similar concept was displayed by the Japanese manufacturer monikered as Authentics Concept at the Auto Shanghai - 2013. The car will be rivaling against the quintessential players in the C-segment arena, Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The sedan will replace the aging SX4, that has failed to bring encouraging results lately, for the manufacturer. With Beiging Auto Show around corner, Suzuki might showcase the production ready model of Ciaz at the mega event. The projected leaked images of the production ready Ciaz were leaked in China.
Speaking of the design, from the leaked images the sedan draws its profile entirely from the Ciaz concept. The front fascia carry forwards the contour curves of the concept, the grille is a straight lift including the bumper profile. The sedan misses the snazzy detailing of the concept version, like the exquisite detaining of the headlamp cluster, DRLs in the fog lamp housing and sleeker wing mirror (pretty obvious, as all these things make concept - a head turning). The rear profile of the sedan is the area that ring bells the most – that is based on the Ciaz concept! Wrap around tail lamp cluster blends beautifully with the high buffed-up trunk. The side shoulder crease line also runs through out the taillight's profile. The overall length of the vehicle is reduced compared to the enormous Ciaz concept. The concept sedan sports rear bumper integrated exhaust mufflers which will be now replaced with Fog lamps/reflectors.
Mechanically, the Ciaz will be powered by the existing 1.3 MJD, it is most unlikely that the manufacture will launch the car with the 1.6 MJD (as sadly, Fiat Linea is still doing with 1.3 MJD in India). On the petrol front, the vehicle might get a new unit – a more powerful version in the K-series.
The interiors of the vehicle were also leaked earlier, thought the dash reminds of a Suzuki vehicle but the overall layout is different from the Swift/Ertiga territory. The car is equipped with large screen audio unit, multi-function steering wheel, rear AC louvers and black-beige dash layout. The car will get leather upholstery, smart-key-less entry with engine start-stop. The car will also feature 15 inch rubber for the lower variants and 16 inch for the top of the line variant, dressed upon multi-spoke alloys (100% better than the sad looking City alloys, while Verna goes one-up due to machined ones). The car boosts decent leg-room for front and rear passengers.
It seems like the whole C-segment is upside down, almost every sedan is upgraded. Ranging from the new Honda City, updated Verna (one with LED's), tweaked Fiat Linea, mid-life refreshed Ford Fiesta & updated Nissan Sunny (which are around the corner) and Vento update can be seen sometime soon as globally updated Polo, on which Vento is based, is already showcased (Rapid will also follow the footsteps of Vento). It will likely to give cut throat competition for the upcoming Ciaz.
