Maruti Suzuki’s latest offering, the Vitara Brezza, has outsold its closest competitor the Ford EcoSport for the second month in a row. A total of 7832 Brezzas were delivered in April as against the EcoSport's 3789 units.
The Brezza had outnumbered the EcoSport in the very first month of its launch despite the announcement of a hefty price cut on the EcoSport. The Mahindra TUV300, another sub-4metre compact SUV managed to sell just 1,928 units during the same period.
Comparison: The Vitara Brezza vs the TUV300 vs the EcoSport
The Vitara Brezza is Maruti Suzuki’s first attempt in the much competitive compact SUV segment. It’s a made-in-India product – designed and developed from scratch in the country – under the guidance of CV Raman, MSI executive director - Research and Development. This has helped the carmaker to achieve ninety eight per cent of localization level with this newest offering. Powered by a DDiS200 diesel motor, the car produces 88bhp of max power at 4,000rpm and 200Nm torque at 1,750rpm. Its claimed fuel efficiency is 24.3kmpl and unlike the last two offerings- the S-Cross and the Baleno, it is retailed through the regular Maruti Suzuki dealerships.
There’s lot working for the new kid on the block and Ford would be just expecting that the sales gap between the two shouldn’t widen to alarming levels.
