Like Hyundai, Maruti is also facing – or should we say enjoying – the heat of increasing demand, thanks to which it will soon have to increase the production of its new models such as the Vitara Brezza and Baleno. With the Gujarat plant expected to become operational next year, this burden will fall on the shoulders of the Gurgaon and Manesar facilities for now. A report on ETAuto states that Maruti Suzuki will increase production in the said plants. Also, the Gujarat facility will be the only Suzuki-owned facility in India.

Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava said, “There may be some temporary shortage of capacity. Gujarat is coming up next year." He added that the company will end the 2015–16 fiscal year with sales of 1.45 million vehicles, which is expected to rise by 8 to 9 per cent to 1.55 million units next year.

Mr Bhargava also expressed his concern over cars facing the heat of pollution in Delhi/NCR. He said that diesel engines are being targeted wrongly and that two-wheelers cause more pollution than four-wheelers but escape criticism since they are higher in number and since lawmakers have their political considerations in mind. He added that the Delhi government’s odd-even scheme is not justifiable and that measures like introducing a congestion tax are still acceptable compared to prohibiting the movement of cars.

Maruti currently has no car with a 2.0-litre or higher diesel engine in its line-up. All of its vehicles are being sold in Delhi and are doing quite well. It is also slated to introduce an automatic transmission in the Swift hatchback – similar to the one launched in the Swift Dzire a couple of months ago – soon.

Soon after its arrival, the Brezza has been outperforming the Ford EcoSport in terms of sales. The Baleno hatchback has also been doing well and has proven to be a worthy alternative to the Elite i20.So the increase in production capacity will bring down the waiting time for its popular models.
