As the festive season is around the corner and Ford launching the new Figo hatchback in October in order to continue its good run in the hatchback segment, Maruti Suzuki too will be launching a special edition of their hot-selling Swift called, the Swift SP. This limited edition version will be based on the LDi/LXi variants and will incorporate additional features like 4-speaker integrated audio system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, reverse parking sensors, central locking with keyless entry, all four power windows, 60:40 rear seat split, seat and steering covers, fog lamps, wheel covers, blacked out pillars, body colored ORVMs and body side molding. The Swift SP with so many additional features is expected to be priced a bit above the ongoing model.
Maruti Suzuki India has sold more than 2 million units of Swift hatch in the country till date. Swift was first launched in 2005 and saw a generation change in 2011 to provide consumers with something new. The car got another facelift in 2014.
Mechanically, the car will remain the same. Under the hood will be the similar 1197cc K-series petrol unit with VVT which churns out 83 bhp of power and the much-famed 1248 cc DDiS Multijet engine which produces 74 bhp of power. Additionally, a new competitor is about to be launched in the country Tata Zica, which will have 1199 cc three cylinder engine that puts out almost similar power of that of Swift's - 85 PS @ 6000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm while the diesel chucks out 70PS @ 4000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1800-3000 rpm.
