Maruti India has now announced to launch its premium hatchback Maruti Swift in the Indian Auto market on 17 August. It is speculated that the company is willing to cut down the exports of its diesel engine to Hungary to maintain their focus on the Indian car market, where the demand for the diesel engine cars is increasing at an exponential rate. As per an estimate the demand for the petrol and the diesel cars in India are in the ratio of 30:70 respectively. The new Maruti Swift price is expected to be between Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh.

The main reason behind this step by the company could be the competition from the other major brand cars like Ford Figo, Toyota Etios Liva, Volkswagen Polo and also upcoming Honda Brio. The company is expected to increase the production capacity of new Maruti Swift to 18,000 cars in a month, so that the waiting period for the car could be reduced. Mayank Pareek Managing Executive officer (Marketing and Sales) of Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) reportedly said on Thursday that Maruti has decided to reduce the export of the diesel engines to Hungary to meet the demands of the Indian market. He also added that the company at present exports about 35,000-45,000 diesel engines, and this will be taken down to an imperceptible amount.

The company has invested an amount of Rs 550 crore on the New Maruti Swift which is being manufactured on a totally new platform. Currently 10,000-11,000 Maruti Swift cars are being manufactured in the company’s unit but this will soon increase to 17,000-18,000 cars in a month. This increase in turn will reduce the waiting period of the car to 2-3 months which at present is 3-4 months. The new Maruti Swift will be available in the market in 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L diesel engine.
