Which of these two sub-4m SUVs offer better value for money? Let’s find out
Maruti Suzuki recently updated the Brezza in India and it marked the introduction of an AMT gearbox with the 1.3-litre, 90PS diesel engine for the first time. The Vitara Brezza is now priced between Rs 7.52 lakh and Rs 10.27 lakh. At this price, the base variants of the Brezza have become even more expensive than before compared to its arch rival, the Tata Nexon (diesel), which is priced between Rs 7.18 lakh and 10.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Here is the detailed comparison of the variants of these sub-4m SUVs.

Maruti Vitara Brezza LDi vs Tata Nexon XE Price Difference: Brezza more expensive by Rs 34,000
In their respective base variants, both the SUVs are scarcely equipped. However, for safety, both get dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. The Brezza also gets ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors and high-speed alert in addition.
Talking about other features, the Nexon is equipped with front power windows, tilt-adjustable steering and multi-drive modes. Apart from the drive modes, the Brezza gets all these features too. In addition, it also gets an audio CD player with Bluetooth and electrically adjustable ORVMs. The Brezza also gets wider 205-section tyre compared to the Nexon’s 195-section tyres.
Verdict: The Brezza Ldi does get some useful features over the Nexon XE, without which any car would appear incomplete in this day and age. But a premium of Rs 34,000 for a basic CD player, parking sensors and electrically adjustable ORVMs is a little on the higher side. But if you don’t want to get into the hassle of getting anything fitted from the aftermarket, you can go for the Brezza. Else, go for the Nexon XE and get yourself a more modern music system and rear parking sensors fitted.
Maruti Vitara Brezza VDi vs Tata Nexon XM Price Difference: Brezza more expensive by Rs 21,000
In these variants, both the SUV are similarly equipped. Features on offer (over the previous variants) include all four power windows, music system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX, rear parking sensors and electrically adjustable ORVMs. However, the Brezza gets anti-theft security system as well in addition.
Verdict: The premium of Rs 21,000 that the Brezza commands over the Nexon despite having a similar set of features is on the higher side. The Nexon remains our pick here.
Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi vs Tata Nexon XZ Price Difference: Nexon more expensive by Rs 17,000
Nexon features (over XM): Projector headlamps, 6.5-inch Harman-Kardon touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and steering-mounted controls, voice alerts for seat belt, door and parking brake, parking camera with dynamic guidelines, day/night IRVM, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, height-adjustable driver seat and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.
Vitara Brezza features (over VDi): Projector headlamps, front fog lamps, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split rear seats and 16-inch alloys.
Verdict: The Nexon is clearly the better equipped among the two. For Rs 17,000, it gets extra features such as 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, parking camera with dynamic guidelines, rear AC vents and electrically foldable ORVMs, which make it a more sensible buy over the Brezza ZDi.
Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi+ vs Tata Nexon XZ+ Price Difference: Brezza more expensive by Rs 9,000
Nexon features (over XZ): LED DRLs, 16-inch alloys, central console with tambour door, 60:40 split rear seat, front fog lamps with cornering assistance, rear fog lamps and smart key with push-button start.
Vitara Brezza features (over Zdi): 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front sliding armrest with storage, cooled glovebox, smart key with push-button start, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control and wider 215-section tyres.
Verdict: Here, the Brezza is priced at a premium of Rs 9,000 over the Nexon. For that extra, it offers automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, Apple CarPlay and cruise control. In this case, the Brezza turns out to be the more value-for-money offering of the two.
Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi+ AMT vs Tata Nexon XZ+ AMT Price Difference: Nexon more expensive by Rs 11,000
As the names suggest, in these variants, both SUVs get an AMT gearbox. Features offered on these variants are similar to their respective variants, which we have already compared. In addition to those, these SUVs also get some AMT-specific features like creep function and anti-stall. However, the Nexon gets a bit extra in the form of hill launch assist and a PEPS key.
Verdict: We would suggest you to opt for the Vitara Brezza AMT. Because, it is not just more affordable than the Nexon AMT, it packs more features as well in the form of automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and Apple CarPlay. It does misses out on hill launch assist and a PEPS key, but those are not very big misses.

Readers note:
Nexon’s XT variant - an additional variant between Nexon XM and XZ - is it VFM? The Nexon XT is priced at Rs 8.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Rs 57,000 more than the XM variant. Additional features offered on the XT variant include automatic climate control, rear AC vents and electrically foldable ORVMs, which we think do not justify the price hike it gets over the XM variant.
Brezza AMT available in lower variants as well: Where the Nexon AMT is offered in a single top-of-the-line XZA+ variant only, the Brezza AMT is available in the lower VDi and ZDi variants as well. They share their feature lists with the respective manual counterparts and can be a good option for those looking for an automatic diesel SUV under Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
