It has been just over a month and the strike saga at Maruti Manesar plant seemed to repeat reminisces of the 13-day long strike on Thursday when some workers declared a tool down for an hour at the plant. However, due to immediate efforts on the part of Maruti management, the Maruti strike could not pick up and production resumed after few hours, said sources.

As per reports, a supervisor at the plant was assaulted by the workers on Wednesday. Following the assault, Maruti management took action against the accused workers and issued show cause notices to them. The on-strike workers agitated against the disciplinary action taken by Maruti management against the workers and decided to go on strike. The accused four workers were also said to be forcibly evicted by police, added sources. The strike was also termed to be only indicative and was not a full fledged strike as per reports. Maruti has reportedly suffered a production loss of over 50 cars due to the strike on Thursday. The per day capacity of the plant is 12,00 cars and the plant produces Maruti Swift, Maruti A-star among the hatchbacks and Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4 in the sedan segment.

The Maruti strike however could not fetch much response from other workers and only few workers participated in the tool-down. But the one-hour Maruti Strike had refreshed memories of the 13-day strike at the plant that has incurred 630 crore loss to Maruti India. Following the June strike, when over 800 workers went on strike and production came to a standstill, delivery of Maruti Swift Dzire was affected severely and delivery time extended to six months. At that time the workers demanded recognition of the newly formed union at the Manesar plant.
