Maruti Suzuki India, country's largest car maker, announced on Tuesday that it has crossed the milestone of rolling out three lakh K-Series engines, which is the latest generation engine, fitted in many popular cars of Maruti including A Star, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ritz.
A Maruti official reportedly said that, the company achieved this target in just a short period of 19 months. Going forward, the K-series engine will play a key role in Maruti Suzuki's strategy in consolidating its leading position in the Indian automobile sector. Apart from the cars which already sport the K-series engines, it will be progressively introduced on other models as well over a period of next three to five years, the official added.
At present, Maruti India has about 54 per cent share in country's car market. In last fiscal, the company sold 7,65,526 units out of a total of 15,26,787 units of passenger cars sold in the domestic market.
Where one variant of K series engines (998cc three-cylinder) has been attached in Maruti A-star, Estilo, and the new Wagon R. and a 1.2-litre, the four-cylinder 'K12M' petrol engine is powering Maruti Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire. The company has a total engine production capacity of 10 lakh units annually, of which K-Series engines account for 25 per cent.
