Mercedes Benz to launch new V6 and V8 engines

Mercedes Benz India, country’s second largest luxury car maker, is planning to come–up with its new generation fuel-efficient engines, the 3.5 liter V6 and 4.7 liter V8. The new generation fuel efficient engines will be capable of increasing the fuel-economy by more than 20%, along with lowering down the emission level significantly.

Currently, the company is using 3.5 liter v6 and 5.4 liter V8 engines in its cars that are capable of producing maximum power of 268 hp and 382 hp respectively.

In the new V8 engines, volume has been decreased to 4.6 liter, as against 5.6 liter of the earlier one. With this, direct-injected twin turbochargers have also been added to this new engine, which enables the engine to run at 10.5:1 compression ratio.  The new V8 engine has become more powerful with an increased power output of 429 hp as compare to the 382 hp of the existing V8 engine, accounts for a 12% increase in the maximum power.

On the other hand, the new V6 engine will be coming with the same engine displacement of 3.5 liter, though its Vee angle has been changed to 60 degree from 90 degree of the existing V6 engine, which in turn helps in reducing vibration and allows engine to drop the balancer shaft, reducing the overall weight. The new V6 engine is capable of generating maximum power of 301 hp as compare to the 268 hp of the existing engine, along with a torque of 368 Nm.

The Mercedes Benz CL500 will be among the first one to come-up with a new V8 engine along with an improved fuel economy of 29.7 mpg and a decreased CO2 emission level of 224 g/km. Besides this, the Mercedes Benz S350 is expected to be launched with the new V6 engine with mileage of 37.1mpg (improved 24 per cent) – and CO2 emission level of 177 g/km.
