Mercedes is all set to launch the Maybach S600 Guard tomorrow, in India. The S600 blends luxury and security in one good looking combo. The car has a VR10 protection rating, parameters of which are laid down by Directive BRV 2009 (Bullet Resistant Vehicles) Version 2. The features also include a fresh air system, which cycles the air inside the cabin, in case of a gas attack. The fuel tank is also capable of healing itself in case a bullet punctures it. It will be a CBU unit and will cost around Rs. 10 crore.
Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, the S600 is powered by a hefty 6.0-litre twin Turbo V12 engine capable of producing 523bhp of power and 830Nm of torque. The showcased vehicle featured R9 level ballistic protection along with ERV (Explosive Resistant Vehicles) rating, which means the car will not be affected by a blast, as long as the explosion is triggered by less than 15kgs of TNT and at a distance of greater than 4 metres.
As of now, India has the S Guard which had features like Night View Assist Plus, LED Intelligent Light System, 360° camera and Emergency fresh air system protecting occupants from the ingress of smoke or irritant gases.
During the launch of S Guard, Markus Rubenbauer, head guard sales, commented, “At Mercedes-Benz, we claim the "technological leadership" in the field of special protection vehicles. Our unique wealth of experience spanning eight decades in the making of prestigious special-protection cars resulted in the S 600 Guard. The S 600 Guard offers hallmark Mercedes-Benz build quality combined with comprehensive highest protection characteristics. This is the first vehicle in Germany to be offered with the highest class of ballistic protection (VR9), which can withstand rifle fire from military weapons and protection from grenades and explosive charges. We are very pleased to present this engineering marvel and epitome of luxury for the Indian customers”.
