Mitsubishi India is all set to launch the Pajero Sport in Automatic avatar tomorrow. Available in a single variant currently, Pajero Sport is the only offering that Mitsubishi sells in India through its collaboration with Hindustan Motors.
Mitsubishi is not offering the Pajero Sport automatic with a 4×4 option. The five-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, and claims to be more fuel efficient than the manual 4×4 model. While the engine remains same as the manual model, which is a 2.5-litre turbocharged CRDi diesel unit, rated at a maximum power output of 175bhp along with 350Nm of peak torque. Though the power output remains unchanged, the torque in the AT variant has come down by 50Nm, in comparison to manual model's 400Nm.
The Pajero Sport AT could get the same tweaks inside-out as the dual-tone limited edition variant launched at the beginning of the festive season. The additions comes in the form of 2-DIN multimedia system with integrated DVD player, navigation system and reverse parking display, cooled box placed in the boot, ORVM cover integrated indicators and many more.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is one of the most potent SUVs, we currently have in our country. Its been pinned on a ladder frame chassis and the suspension duties are handled by double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and three-link coil spring suspension at the rear paired to anti-roll bars.
Mitsubishi may charge a premium of around INR 1-1.5 lac for the automatic over the existing manual model and would compete against the likes of Toyota Fortuner 4×2 AT, SsangYong Rexton RX7 AT, Chevrolet Captiva AWD and Ford Endeavour 4×2 AT.
