Last year news came in that Mitsubishi will launch five new products in India between 2015-2016. The mass market products for the manufacturer will be Mirage hatchback and Attrage sedan, Mitsubishi showcased the duo at the ongoing 35th Bangkok Motor Show. The company also showcased the automatic version of Pajero Sport which will make its India launch in the fall of 2014 around festive season. Apart from this Outlander will also renter India with seven seating arrangement.
Mitsubishi Mirage
Mirage hatchback is the B-segment product from the Japanese automaker; the car is expected to land later next year or early 2016. Mitsubishi manufactures its SUVs at the HM's Chennai plant and the hatch will be manufactured in the same plant but initially will be imported from Thailand through CKD. Recently, HM sold the Chennai plant but Mitsubishi didn't acquired the plant, it seems like the automaker is still not in a hurry for mass production in the country. The Mirage is powered by a 3-cylinder 1.2 liter petrol motor churning out max power of 78PS and max torque of 100Nm. The motor is coupled with a five speed or CVT AT. The car will be rivaling against Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai i10, Honda Brio, Ford Figo and others. Apart from this, if Mitsubishi want to win over rivals, they definitely need a small diesel unit.
Both the cars share similar interiors.
Mitsubishi Attrage
Attrage sedan is derived from Mirage, the car measures juts over 4 meter so the vehicle would not fall in sub-4m (excise duty benefit) but it will be priced competitively just like the Ford did with Classic. Like the hatch sibling, Attrage is also powered by the same 1.2 liter three port engine matted to five speed MT and CVT AT. If priced well this could be the pick among the lot and will provide the much needed ground for the company which was lost after the Lancer faded away. To achieve that, a diesel motor along with petrol becomes a must for company in India.
Pajero Sport AT
Pajero is still going strong in the country, the company is able to sell the SUV nearly 150 units monthly. The SUV is entitled to receive auto box later this year as all the rivals comes in automatic avatar. Mitsubishi showcased Pajero Sport AT at the 35th Bangkok Motor Show, the SUV boost subtle changes. The SUV gets understated changes in the front bumpers, new grille with twin chrome stripes. At the back, the vehicle gets clear lenses for the turn indicators.
