Honda Cars India is all set to launch its premium luxury sedan – the new Accord – on October 25, 2016. The new-generation sedan has now grown in terms of design and performance. Showcased at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo, the vehicle is likely to be offered with only a hybrid option. The new Accord will be imported as a CBU (completely built unit) in the country.
Powering the sedan will be a 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol motor linked to two electric motors, generating 215PS of max power and 300Nm of peak torque. Moreover, a dedicated 2.4-litre petrol mill, producing 176PS and 225Nm, will be added to the sedan at a later stage. This engine will be mated to a CVT transmission gearbox. Despite being heavier than its predecessor, the premium car will have a better overall performance.
The ninth-generation Accord will flaunt all-LED lights at front – LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs) and LED fog lamps. Even the rear will get all-LED tail lamps with new graphics. In terms of features, the upcoming model will be packed with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Debuting in the American version, these features are being offered in the Asian-spec Accord as well, making us hopeful that they’ll make their way into India.
The Japanese carmaker is likely to get benefits under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of [Hybrid &] Electric Vehicles in India) scheme from the Indian government. However, since it will be imported, don't expect a lower price tag. It is speculated that the car will carry a price tag hovering in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh.
