The fifth-generation of Jeep’s flagship SUV is bigger, prettier and loaded with tech
Jeep has confirmed that it will be introducing the latest generation of the Grand Cherokee in India on November 11. The American SUV will be fairly well-equipped, complete with the suite of ADAS features.
The fifth-gen Grand Cherokee looks sleek and sharp, especially the lighting elements front and rear. The aforementioned ADAS tech functions include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, front collision avoidance aid, and emergency braking.
The India-spec Grand Cherokee’s luxurious cabin will likely be quite similar to the USA-spec model. It includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, an optional infotainment screen for the co-driver, a digital driver's display, a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system, a head-up display, and a wireless phone charger.
The India-spec Grand Cherokee will be powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automated transmission, sending power to all four wheels. It will also receive Jeep's Selec-Terrain management technology to handle various road conditions. Meanwhile, the USA-spec model gets the choice of a V6 engine and a new 2-litre turbo-hybrid 4xe powertrain.
Since the new Grand Cherokee will be assembled in Ranjangaon facility in India itself, it is expected to be priced from Rs 80 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). It will be the fourth Jeep model to be built in India, and the second to be locally-assembled after the Wrangler. The Cherokee will take on the likes of Audi Q7, Mercedes Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Volvo XC90.
