The details of the upcoming 2015 Volkswagen Passat are leaked online in China; VW had teased the sedan online a few days ago. However, the car will grace the online world in next month while the public debut is slated at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. The new Passat will be launched as 2015 model in the falls of the 2014 soon after the show, expect the Indian debut early 2015. Moreover, the vehicle will also be introducing the VW's new 2.0 Bi-TDI dual turbo diesel engine.
Speaking about the leaked presentation of the 2015 Passat, the world was aware of the design as the company showcased the sketches but the leaked images put lights on a few more interesting points. Firstly, the vehicle features a 12.3 inch fully digital instrumentation cluster, looks to be inspired from the new Audi TT.
The instrumentation cluster is likely to be powered by Nvidia's GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) as the ones in the upcoming Audis are powered by the same. The new Passat will feature lot of weight reduction measures, the car has reportedly shed 85kg with the use of aluminum and steel.
The vehicle also packs lot of 'flamboyance quotient' compared to current one. The new Passat will feature LED taillamps, day-time-running-LED at the front, a coupe like roof-line, shark-fin antenna, etc. It will also feature updated park assist system, anti-dazzle high beams and 360-degree camera system amongst other safety features.
As the current Passat in India is offered only with a diesel engine, possibility of petrol motors in the 2015 model reduces. Expect the new 2.0 liter Bi-TDi to enter India, the motor churns out 237bhp of max power while the torque stats at 500Nm. Other engines options that will be available globally will be 1.6 TDI (118bhp), and turbo petrol TSI powertrains ranging from 1.4,1.8 and 2.0 litres.
2016 Skoda Superb?
The sketch of the 2016 Skoda Superb is also hovering over the Internet and just like the Passat's leaked presentation this also came from the dragon land – China. There is not much that we know about the nex-gen Superb; but it will be taking a good amount of inspiration front the Vision C concept and the upcoming Passat. The car will be based on the VW's MQB platform and will share bits and pieces with the 2015 Passat. Expect the 2.0 Bi-TDi motor, debuting in the Passat, to power the nex-gen Superb.
