Fiat has started the sales of the next generation model of the Fiat Grande Punto hatchback in the car market of Europe. As was clearly evident from the looks of the new car, the new Fiat Punto has got a lot of changes in its design and other departments. Recently a facelift model with a small modification aka 2012 Grande Punto was launched in India with the main quality of the car being a higher ground clearance. However the Fiat Grande Punto introduced in Europe is expected to be the new generation that the Punto can get in the Indian market in about a year.

The major modifications in the 2012 model of the Fiat Grande Punto launched in Europe are a brand new front portion with freshly designed bumper and grille. The indicators for turns are now given on the front bumper. The position of the badge is also shifted in the 2012 Punto. The change in looks is not confined only to the front portion. In the back part also the car has got new tail lights and bumper. The curve of the back portion has also been increased to a higher level than the predecessor models and here too the badge has been shifted to the centre.

To add to the external modifications the next generation Fiat Punto has received 15 inch wide alloy wheels. As far as the interiors are concerned, the company has upgraded the fabric of the seats to give a refreshing look. All these features which increase the style quotient of the car were displayed by the company for the first time at the Auto exhibition in Germany in 2011. A very exiting modification to the new car is a twin Air turbocharged petrol engine. This new 875cc engine provides a power of 85Bhp and a torque of 145Nm. It also reduces the fuel consumption considerably and hence makes the car a very economic model. This could result in a massive popularity if Fiat plans to launch its upcoming car in India with this engine. The alternate engine is the reliable 1.3 Multijet2 90Bhp-200Nm diesel variant which is used in the Indian Punto.
