Hyundai Motors India has rescheduled the launch date of its next-gen Hyundai Tucson to November 14, 2016. Earlier, the launch was planned for October 24, but it was delayed due to unknown reasons. Bookings for the premium SUV are already underway at select Hyundai dealership outlets across the country. It will be competing with the likes of the Honda CR-V and Skoda Yeti.
Showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016, the new Tucson will be the second product to be launched this year from Hyundai’s stable after the next-gen Elantra in August. Keeping its word to introduce two new products every year in the Indian market, the South Korean automaker will accomplish that with the launch of the Tucson.
The upcoming SUV will fill the large gap between Hyundai’s existing SUVs, the Creta and the premium offering, the Santa-Fe. The launch of the Elantra boosted the ailing executive sedan segment and by bringing back the discontinued nameplate of the Tucson, Hyundai seems to have rightly gauged the fact that buyers are no more shy to extend their budget when it comes to choosing the right set of wheels.
The new Tucson is likely to get a powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine which is available with its international models. The motor pumps out 185PS of top power and 400Nm of peak torque. Besides manual, an automatic transmission is likely on the cards.
Moreover, defying the rumours that the SUV will be offered only with a diesel heart, the new Tucson will also get a petrol one. This might be the new 2.0-litre engine from the newly launched Elantra, with rearrangement of engine and gear ratios to work in sync with the SUV.
The prices of the next-gen Tucson are likely to fall in the range of Rs 18-25 lakh. Let’s see if the Tucson launch can trigger a similar response to what Hyundai got for the Elantra.
