We are actually at a loss of ways to give a news piece an interesting start with so many back to back launches and not a minute to think about new ways to begin a piece of writing. Defying the ritual of giving a fancy start to launch news (sigh!), we come straight to the point… Today the Indian auto market sees the Nissan urban class utility vehicle, Nissan Evalia which drove in at a price of Rs. 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi), stands against the likes of Toyota Innova, Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Xylo.
The USP of the car as already established is the fuel efficiency which is 19.33kmpl (ARAI claimed). Helping the car return this mileage is the Renault Nissan K9K engine. Evalia is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine which has already established itself as one of the most fuel-efficient engines in today’s time. The engine runs with finesse with NVH- Nosie, Vibration and Harshness levels being fairly low. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. In terms of drivability the car is blessed however at a high speed, the stability might be a little point of concern. Despite its massive size, the car gives a short turning radius of 5.2m which helps in maneuverability. The Evalia delivers a power of 83.8bhp and a torque of 200Nm.
Another very big advantage that Nissan Evalia has is the space that it offers along with the sliding doors which provide easy access to get in and out along with the lower floor. Evalia can seat 7 people easily and in comfort. It has nearly 2100-litres of space which can be increased to 2900-litres in case the middle row seats are bent over. The space for the front seat passengers is heavenly and to top it all, the bucket seats provide for added comfort levels. The seats for the passengers in second row are however not that comfortable but then again, there is no trouble with the space here as well. The third row is also surprisingly very spacious as compared to the others in the segment.
Nissan brought the Nissan Evalia in four variants; XE which is priced at Rs. 8. 49 lakh, the XE Plus Rs. 8.92 lakh, the mid range XL will be at Rs. 9.49 lakh and top of the line XV is tagged at Rs. 9.99 lakh (prices mentioned ex-showroom New Delhi). The top end is blessed with 14inch alloys, intelligent key system, reverse park camera, music system, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist, airbags, immobilizer etc. The airbags are missing in the base variant.
Evalia, as already established, will be launched in phases. The next launch will be tomorrow, at Mumbai followed by Chennai on 27th and Bangalore on the 28th September. The pre-bookings are already open at an advance of Rs. 50,000.
Nissan disclosed that they will be introducing nearly 61 products globally by the year 2016 which means nearly 1 product every 6 weeks. They also mentioned how the Indian market is very important. Due to the same as we already know Nissan is investing of Rs. 4,500 Crore and will be increasing the production at the plant in Chennai to produce nearly 4 lakh units. The exports from India will also be about 1 lakh unit per year over 77 countries. For India, Nissan will introduce over 10 new models by 2016 which will be on an average 2 models per year.
