Nissan had recently launched its mid-sized sedan Nissan Sunny in India. Nissan India envisages reaching a target of 40,000 unit sales by the end of the current financial year and a target of 100,000 units by the next year. The Nissan Sunny sedan had been launched with a low price of Rs 5.78 lakhs for its base variant, which could turn to be an advantage for Nissan. With the low price as compared with its contemporaries in the segment and loaded with best-in-the class features, the company has pinned up high hopes for the success of the sedan. The Nissan Micra on an average sells 2000 units a month and has been able to record just 1345 unit sales in the month of August. On the other hand, the Japanese manufacturer has other plans in the pipeline. The company mulls to offer around eight different cars in India, with three models expecting to reach the Indian shores as CBUs.

The low sales of Nissan Micra could be related to the low dealer network of the company. However, with Nissan’s plans to increase the dealerships across the country to 60 showrooms by 2012, the Nissan Micra sales might pick up. Now, with the introduction of much competitively priced Nissan sunny sedan in its segment, the auto brand can hope for high sales volume. The Nissan Sunny targets the potential rivals like Maruti Swift Dzire and Hyundai Verna in the market. The Nissan product portfolio in the country offers, Nissan 370Z, Nissan Teana, Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Sunny and Nissan Micra.
