Renault Fluence vs Skoda Octavia: A Comparison

In 2013, the new skoda Octavia was launched with seven different variants which offers a wide range for the customers to choose from. It comes at the starting price of Rs.13.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while top of the range costs Rs.19.45 lakh in India. Talking about C+ segment cars which are turning popular amongst the Indian buyers and persistent confusion exists in the minds of the buyers over which one to go for. Skoda Octavia falls in this category of cars and up against it comes recently launched, Renault Fluence. Renault Fluence is another sorted vehicle of the segment, which has also gained commendable popularity in less time. Fluence is available at the starting price of Rs. 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As it has been recently introduced, it has kind of created a buzz in the Indian car market, and undoubtedly, the lavish looking sedan certainly carries the oomph factor with it. Lets make a quick comparison between the 2013 Skoda Octavia and 2014 Renault Fluence.
Exteriors:
The French manufacturer, Renault, have come up with a luxury defining sedan in the form of new Fluence. The spectacular design and styling speaks all for the french craftsmansip put behind the making of new Fluence. The exterior profile offers new front grille, new bumpers with fog lamps and LED DRLs (Day Time Running Llights), and a more prominently looking company's logo right at the front center of the car.
On the other hand, the 2013 Skoda Octavia offers daytime running LED and pronounced grille with company's logo over it, makes the sedan appear classic. Based on MQB platform, the new Octavia has grown 90mm longer and 45mm wider than another sedan of Skoda, Laura. Therefore, the new Octavia is more spacious and more comfortable.
Interiors:
Inside the cabin, the new Fluence comes loaded with several features like infotainment system with satellite navigation, R-link infotainment module along with a 3D sound system with eight speakers. Other advanced features include driver-aid technologies such as automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers. Also has illuminated glove box, soft touch dashboard, follow me headlamps, start/stop push button, electically adjustable mirrors and others. In the safety feature baggage, the sedan gets 4 airbags, and system like ABS, EBD and ESP.
With the new Octavia, the sedan has been made more up-market with better quality plastic used, better fit and finish and an improvised dasgboard all-together adds to the plushness of the car. Claimed to the safest car of the segemnt with safety features like ABS, Lane assistance, Fatigue detection system, adaptive cruise control, nine airbags, intelligent light assistant and traffic sign recognition.
Engine:
To offer better choices to the customers, Skoda offers Octavia with three engine options- a 1.4-litre TSI petrol, 1.8-litre TSI petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The 1.4-litre TSI offers max power of 138bh, while the 1.8-litre churns 178bhp and diesel engine belts out max power of 141bhp.
Renault Fluence comes with only one fuel option that is a 1.5-litre diesel mill. This oil burner produces max power of 108bhp at 4000rpm along with peak torque of 240Nm at 1850rpm.
