Nissan Group of India’s year-on-year sales indicated a healthy growth at 328% for the month of April in spite of tough market conditions. The company sold 5,301 vehicles in April 2014 as against 1,239 vehicles in April 2013.
Datsun GO contributed over 50% to Nissan Group’s April 2014 sales with 2691 units. This is what exactly Nissan wants to do. It is targeting a 10 percent of Indian car market, with the Datsun and Nissan both contributing 5 percent each. The Datsun brand at the moment only has one product in its league, which is the GO. Soon, we will also see the GO+, an MPV to be launched in India very soon. This will help Nissan to boost the sales further, as already the company has seen a hike in its sales figures with the titivated version of the Micra, new Micra Active, new Terrano and the GO. This year other new products from Nissan will be the facelifted Sunny, which was showcased at the Auto Expo. The interiors weren’t revealed, but we recently shared how the interiors of the Sunny could be.
Mr. Kenichiro Yomura – President, Nissan Group of India said, “We are witnessing an encouraging growth in our sales. We ended FY-13 on a high and have begun the new financial year with a healthy 328% year-on-year growth for the month of April. Our focus is to continue this trend going forward.”
Expect seven more new products under the Nissan and Datsun brands in total till 2016. One we already know is the GO+. Others will be a Qashqai, new Altima/Teana, new Micra, the brand new platform that Renault-Nissan India Private Limited has been designing for CMF-A platform for the Indian car market. This will help to get a product below the Datsun GO also.
As an overall, the RNIPL is expecting to capture 15% of the Indian car market with 5% under Renault and 10% for Nissan. Renault will be introducing the new Lodgy next year and this will help them to enter the MPV segment too. In the European market, the Lodgy is sold under the Dacia brand. This brand will not make its way into India. These same vehicles will be exported from India to the United Kingdom as a Dacia. However, it is Renault that has been struggling to match up with its previous year sales at the moment. For Nissan things are moving in the right direction so far.
