The Renault’s entrant to the sub-4m SUV segment has been spied testing multiple times over the year at various stages of development. It was recently unveiled in its pre-production concept avatar when we got a confirmation on its name, the Kiger. Now, a trio of test mules have been spied testing, albeit still draped in camouflage.
The test mules seemed close to production specification, with one of them sporting new alloy wheels. Another of the spied models was seen with styled wheel caps -- both wheels seemed to be the same 16-inches. One can also see the C-shaped tail lamps and split headlamp design, same as the Kiger concept. It has a coupe-like roofline with an integrated rear spoiler, roof rails, and a shark fin antenna.
Renault has kept the cabin of the Kiger well hidden under camouflage, in fact, we didn’t even see it on the show car concept model. The only spy shot of the interior thus far revealed it will have a darker cabin theme and a more premium dashboard than the Triber. It will get a floating 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, positioned above the central air vents, with the three-dial layout for the climate controls further down the central console.
The Kiger is expected to borrow some of the features from its Nissan Magnite cousin such as wireless charging, digital instrument cluster, cruise control, and maybe even the surround-view camera system. Renault’s offering will be a petrol-only model with the same 1.0-litre (72PS/96Nm) and 1.0-litre turbocharged (100PS/160Nm) engines. However, the Kiger may offer the option of an AMT for the 1.0-litre petrol engine along with a CVT automatic for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit.
The Renault Kiger is expected to debut in early-2021, possibly January, with prices likely to start from Rs 5.5 lakh. It will take on the likes of the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, and the Mahindra XUV300.
