Skoda Enyaq EV’s Interior To Use Recycled Materials

The first electric Skoda SUV will make its global debut on September 1

• The Enyaq iV will introduce Skoda’s new range of interior personalisation options called Design Selections.

• The new interior layout will use environmentally sustainable and recycled materials such as polyester from recycled PET bottles.

• It will feature a sleek new digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

• The Enyaq iV will be offered with three different battery capacities and a maximum range of 500km.

Skoda had teased its first pure electric SUV, the Enyaq iV, earlier this year with the models covered entirely in the brand’s signature green and white camouflage. While the EV is scheduled to be unveiled on September 1, Skoda has now released the first official teaser of the Enyaq’s interior.

The teaser sketch showcases a minimal yet contoured dashboard design than the current production Skoda models. It also seems to share some design cues with the Vision iV concept. It moves the central AC vents below the 13-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and features a sleeker digital display for the instrument cluster with a new head-up display and AR (augmented reality). The electric SUV seems to get a two-spoke steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls and knurled dials.

The central console controls are distributed in two levels with a line of buttons above the compartment for stowing your phones and has charging ports. Moving down the console tunnel, we can see the cup holders and the new drive selector. It’s quite distinctive with its pebble-like shape and premium glossy finish instead of an upright lever or toggle. There is a cubby hole next to the drive select, on the passenger side, which will likely offer decent storage space since there’s no transmission tunnel underneath. Additionally, the Enyaq iV will offer a boot space of 485 litres.

The Enyaq iV’s interior sketch is indicative of Skoda’s new range of interior personalisation called Design Selections. Another notable aspect of the interior is the use of natural and recycled materials. One of the Design Selections boasts of seat covers made from a 60 percent blend of polyester made from recycled plastic bottles. So the Enyaq iV is not only green in its emissions but tries to be more environmentally friendly on the inside as well.

Skoda also mentions that the new electric SUV will have a spacious cabin thanks to the flat floor  and long wheelbase, courtesy of the MEB platform that it is built on. The Enyaq iV is similarly sized as the Kodiaq, measuring 4648mm in length, 1877mm in width and 1618mm in height. Based on the camouflaged teasers, this electric SUV is likely to feature a sporty design.

The Czech carmaker had already revealed that the Enyaq iV will be offered with three different battery capacities. The maximum range of 500km will be available with a 82kWh battery pack and an electric motor rated at 204PS. There will also be a sporty RS variant with the same battery and AWD where the performance figure is bumped up to 306PS to do the 0-100kph sprint in 6.5 seconds. Skoda also stated that its batteries will be compatible with upto 125kW fast charging to top it up from 10 to 80 percent in forty minutes.

Skoda is unlikely to introduce the Enyaq iV in India. It’s a lot bigger than the current set of EVs offered in India such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, the MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV.
