Ladies and gentlemen, here’s your first official look at the Skoda Kodiaq. Apart from a few close-up images, the Czech automaker has also sent in a video that leaves little to the imagination. While we already have a good idea of what the SUV will look like, thanks to the plethora of camouflaged images and renders, it’s great to see the VisionS concept ready for production.

Slated for a reveal on September 1, 2016 in Berlin, the Kodiaq evidently shares a lot of its design cues with the Skoda Superb. Highlights include the Skoda family radiator grille, sleek headlamps with integrated DRLs and an aggressively chiselled bonnet. Also seen are familiar looking tail lights, muscular wheel arches, smart-key sensors on the door handles, a chrome window outline and radically styled 20-inch wheels, wrapped around by 235-section tyres (India will get a smaller size).

The feature list will include power-adjustable ventilated seats, an electric sunroof and tailgate, 3-zone climate control and leather upholstery. As you’d expect, Skoda hasn’t skimped on the tech end. Infotainment, assistance systems and connectivity are an integral part of the package. The infotainment systems will get capacitive touchscreens and the systems will be compatible with the SmartLink platform (includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink and SmartGate). The top-of-the-range Columbus and Amundsen systems come with a WiFi hotspot as well.

Like we mentioned in our earlier report, depending on the market, the Kodiaq will be available with a range of two diesel and three petrol engines, which will be shared with the Superb. Transmission duties will be handled by a six-speed manual or a DSG automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive comes as standard, while all-wheel drive will be available as well. The Kodiaq will also come equipped with a drive mode selector and dynamic chassis control (DCC), which enables drivers to alter the behaviour of the steering, accelerator, DSG transmission and suspension, based on the driving scenario.

Global sales of the Kodiaq begin next year and yes, India is one of the destination markets as per Skoda India’s 2017 game-plan. Rivalling the Ford Endeavour and new-gen Toyota Fortuner, the Kodiaq will slide in above the Yeti in Skoda’s model range. Check out the detailed preview here.
