Update: Maruti has finally revealed its much awaited Vitara Brezza compact SUV at the Auto Expo 2016. The car is a sub-4 meter SUV and is brought to diminish the growing popularity of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 in the segment. Suzuki Vitara has been spied at a Maruti-Suzuki premises (presumably) in Noida. There are 3 Vitaras that appear to be the European spec models of the compact SUV and possibilities are that they are brought here to be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
Though, there is no word from the manufacturer regarding the launch of this car, but the moderate sales of S-Cross might motivate Maruti to bring it to India by next year end or even earlier.
Speaking of the car, it was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show that took place in first half of 2015. Vitara is based upon the iV-4 concept that was showcased in 2013 and carries a contemporary boxy styling. However, there is a slight resemblance to the old Vitara which is currently available in India. The major exterior highlights include a clamshell bonnet, projector headlamps, contrasting roof, understated lower air dam, chrome grille, indented tail lamps and large graphite alloy wheels.
In European markets, Vitara is powered by a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder petrol motor that produces a decent 120 bhp, while the option of the 1.6-litre 320 Nm diesel engine is also available (same as S-Cross). With the petrol motor, it gets a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic as an option, whereas the diesel motor gets only the 6-speed manual option.
Maruti is expected to launch the newer generation of vehicles in India by next year and cars like the Ignis, Maruti YBA SUV and even this Vitara could make it here and will be sold through Nexa dealerships
