The electric SUV will be a premium alternative to the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric
Update (11/10/2022): BYD has unveiled the Atto 3 electric vehicle in India. It gets a 60.48kWh battery pack and can cover a range of 521km.
BYD recently made its e6 MPV available for private buyers in India and now, it is all set to launch its second product in India, the Atto 3 electric SUV which is essentially a Jeep Compass-sized premium electric crossover. Before we tell you the top five things about the Atto 3, here’s a quick brief about the brand.
Who Is BYD?
BYD (Build Your Dreams) is a Chinese car manufacturer which chiefly makes batteries and (in its spare time) electric vehicles, along with battery-powered and plug-in hybrids.
Recently, it overtook Tesla as the world’s leading electric car manufacturer and is spread out across some European and South American countries and even the United States of America. In November 2021, the carmaker launched its first product in India, the e6 MPV, but only for B2B (fleet) buyers. It was made available for private buyers earlier in 2022.

So, here are the top five things to know about the BYD Atto 3:
Price And Rival Check
The Atto 3 will be available in a fully loaded single variant, which will be locally assembled. We’re expecting it to be priced at around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric SUV will be a premium alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
Battery And Electric Motor
Globally, BYD offers the Atto 3 with two battery pack choices - 50kWh and 60kWh. We’re expecting the India-spec model to be fitted with the bigger pack. Both versions get a single electric motor powering the front wheels and producing 204PS and 310Nm. The EV can sprint from a standstill to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds. The same specifications will be seen on the India-spec model.

As per the WLTP (Worldwide harmonised Light vehicle Test Procedure) claimed figures, the 50kWh battery delivers a range of 345 kilometres and the 60kWh, 420 kilometres. The EV can support charging speeds of up to 80kW, which will take 45 minutes to charge the EV up to 80 per cent. With a regular 7kW charger, the Atto 3 can be juiced up to 100 per cent in 15 hours.
Features
On the features front, the Atto 3 comes packed with a panoramic sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, heated and powered front seats, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging.

Safety
The Atto 3’s biggest safety highlight will be the presence of ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system). Its ADAS suite consists of adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane departure assist and lane keep assist.
Besides these radar-based active features, the EV will also get seven airbags, TPMS, ISOFIX anchorages, electronic parking brake, ESC, a 360-degree camera and hill descent control.
