Toyota India to spur market share, expand head count

apanese auto giant Toyota India is aspiring to grab large volumes in small car segment and for the same it is eyeing to hire approximately 2,000 people in India this year. Toyota India is all set to heat up Indian auto market, even though the Indian auto market is witnessing decline in demand graphs due to hike in fuel prices and insurance rates, by challenging the existing players such as Hyundai India and Maruti India.

Toyota managing director, Hiroshi Nakagawa said that they are keen to launch more small cars in the most flourishing Indian hatchback segment, cars that will meet all the aspirations of potential customers. However, development of such cars require talented manpower which the company wants to hire from India. Employment statistics of Toyota India reveal that the company has recruited approximately 2000 people in last two years raising the employee count to 5000.

Auto companies such as Honda India, Volkswagen India, Audi India, BMW India and Hyundai India are offering handsome remunerations to break skilled manpower from already established players such as Maruti India. By keen observation of the dynamics of Indian auto market, sources have speculated that the current employment count of 13 million people by auto industries will ramp itself to 25 million people by 2016 so as to efficiently negotiate the complicacies of growth. The key reason of employment growth by Toyota India is the keen desire to ramp up the market share of 40% in 2010 to 50% in next 2-3 Years.

Sandeep Singh, deputy MD, Toyota India disclosed that cars such as Toyota Innova, Toyota Camry, Toyota Fortuner etc accounted for 12% of market share however debut of Toyota Etios Liva has taken the market share to 48%, so the company is lining up other small cars meeting the aspirations of Indian customers to be launched in India soon. Further, he said that currently Toyota India addresses 50% of the car market. Sales statistics have unveiled that last year Toyota India has sold approximately 74000 cars and this year the count may reach to 140,000 cars. Company is also focusing on educational programs, personal and dealer training programs so as to enhance the productivity.
