Toyota to launch Prius C at Detroit Motor Show, Prius hybrid sedan at Indian Auto Expo

It is a generation of electric and hybrid cars, what more can one say! Agreed that Toyota has an expert hand where hybrid cars are concerned while others might be still trying their hand in the electric, hybrid engine technology.  Philosophy apart, Toyota Motors is all set to bring the all new Toyota Prius C, a new variant to its existing line-up of Prius brand for the Detroit Auto Expo. But, what could be more interesting bit of news for us Indians is that Toyota India will have the all new Toyota Prius hybrid global sedan launched right at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo for the Indian car market.

So, most probably we will be seeing the Toyota Prius hybrid sedan along with the others like Mahindra Reva NXR, Tata Manza hybrid, Mahindra Verito electric and if luck favours, the Hyundai cars electric line-up as well to join the genre of electric hybrid cars in India. The Toyota Prius sedan in the international markets carries a 1.8 L petrol engine to work alongside the electric motor under the hood. However, it is still as mystery if Toyota India will retain the same engine trims for the India bound model. Anyhow, the Toyota Prius C reserved for the global markets at the moment is offered with the same Synergy Drive technology as in the Prius hybrid sedan.

But the Aqua compact, which is how the Prius C variant could be also known as in the global markets, will be powered by a toned down 1.5L petrol engine as compared to the sedan. Some reasonable power output numbers can be expected from the petrol-electric engine combination with a 72 Bhp and 60 Bhp respectively.  Fuel efficiency is something we can expect the hybrid cars to deliver and Toyota Prius C will be no different. Toyota claims some big fuel efficiency numbers of 35 kmpl from the Prius C hybrid hatchback.
