Round 2 of Polo R Cup 2011 was nothing less than a nail biter, edge-of-the-seat show with both the races turning out to be thrillers. After round 2, Vishnu Prasad currently leads the championship standings with 110 points followed far behind by Mihir Dharkar at 77 points. Oshan and Rahil are close behind Mihir with 72 and 65 points respectively.
For the second round in succession Vishnu was the one to watch as he continued to dominate the proceedings. In race 1, he fought his way from ninth on the grid to get past Oshan on the second last lap to grab the final podium position. Rahil Noorani, the 21-year driver from Mumbai, won an action-packed race 1, where he started from the pole and maintained his lead throughout. Ajay Kini, talented driver and commercial pilot from Bangalore, who missed round 1, finished 2nd and 3rd in race 1 and race 2 respectively. Rahil, Oshan and Ajay made it to the podium for the first time.
In race 1, Rahil in car #20 had a great start and led into the first corner followed by Ajay and Avdumber Hede. Oshan Kothadiya from Pune got past Avdumber on lap 2, before battling with Ajay for the rest of the race. Vishnu in car #22 fought his way from ninth on the grid to get past Oshan on the second last lap to grab the final podium position. With all cars battling behind him, Rahil cruised to his first ever victory in the Polo R Cup.
In Race 2, Vishnu in car #22 started in sixth position but quickly moved up the order. For the first time this year the safety car came out after there was a collision into the second corner. This gave Vishnu an opportunity to close the gap with the leaders. He fought his way to get past Oshan in the tenth lap to grab the first position. He eventually took the first place in the tenth lap and never looked back. It was a great fight to the finish with Oshan pushing Rahil into a spin with three laps to go. However, both drivers continued with Oshan finishing second on the podium while Ajay finished third.
Thanks to its proven concept of promoting young talent abroad, the Polo Cup enjoys the reputation of being an ideal stepping stone to enter professional racing. Building on its success with the debut Polo Cup India last year, Volkswagen Motorsport will continue to make Polo R Cup the premier touring car championship in the country.
