Maruti Suzuki India is basking in the glory of the recently launched Vitara Brezza. The car is performing well and has generated an amazing response across the country. But, has the compact SUV stood true to the consumer’s expectations or could Maruti have done a better job raising the quality of the car? Let’s try and find out.
Engine
Maruti has mostly relied upon petrol-driven cars, and consumers were expecting the same this time around as well. However, enabling the car with a diesel engine was a smart move, since the Brezza is an SUV. But, with the 1.3-litre DDiS engine, the SUV lacks the power it needs. The said engine produces 90PS power (though a report indicates that Maruti will launch a more powerful Brezza this Diwali), while the EcoSport’s 1.5-litre TDCi diesel generates 100PS power. Also, its rivals, the TUV300 and the EcoSport, are available with the petrol options, and that in turn weakens the position of the Brezza. So, introducing the car with a petrol engine could have been a smarter move for the maker.
AMT Transmission
The Automatic Manual Transmission is currently a hottest technology in the automobile industry, since it provides the comfort of not having to give a second thought to the clutch pedal when changing gears while prancing around the city. But, unlike its competitors, the TUV300 and the EcoSport, the Brezza is left devoid of an AMT option. The AMT’s presence could have been a hard-hitting move, as the company has already established its position in this field with the launch of the Celerio AMT. Maruti has also introduced it in the Alto K10 and the Wagon R, which further solidified the trust of the Indian masses.
Seating Capacity
The Vitara Brezza might be a good vehicle for youngsters and for a medium-sized family (4 or 5 people), but it is definitely not ideal for a large family. With a cool-looking design and several creature comforts, room for a sixth or a seventh passenger would have been a great move. The reason why this should have been implemented is the introduction of cars such as the Mahindra TUV300, the KUV100 and the NuvoSport, which have been launched to address the desire of the masses for an extra seating configuration. And being the largest carmaker in the country, Maruti could have easily capitalised on this requirement.
These are some of the things which could have been taken into account by the carmaker. Though the car has received positive reviews so far, Maruti needs to pay heed to these important points. The Brezza has the potential to not only nail the cars in its segment, but also give stiff competition to other cars such as the Creta and the Duster. (Also check out: Brezza vs Cross hatches). Let us know in the comments section if you think the above pointers need to be put into effect in the near future. Cheers!
