VW will also introduce an all-new 10-Speed DSG dual-clutch auto box, said VW development chief Hans Jakob Neusser at the annual Vienna Motor Symposium in Austria. DSG is a magnificent piece of machinery providing relief of an automatic with adrenalin rush of a manual! What does DSG works- lets get you acquaint with it. DSG gearbox is an automatic transmission that uses two gear shafts instead of one found in conventional ATs. When you put your stick in the drive mode, the first shaft engages the 1st gear while the second shaft already keeps the second ready for you – as a result delay in changing gears is reduced dramatically.

Now, when the second shaft puts the second gear in action the first shaft rushes for the third gear to keeps it in standby, and this goes on reducing the shifting time to less than four-hundredths of a second. DSG comes with two driving modes normal and sports. In sports mode it waits longer for up-shift so that you can extract more from each gear. You can also operate it manually, nudge the gear lever down or forward to shift gears. You can touch rev limit in each gear in manual operations! DSG offers effortless and smoothest shift possible and requires less maintenance compared to conventional.

Volkswagen Polo - Gearbox

The company has two DSG gearboxes currently 6-speed DSG and 7-speed DSG, former is used in powerful engines while the later is used in less powerful motors. VW Polo GT TSI comes with a 7-speed DSG box in India. Its unknown that which vehicles in the VW clan will get this box as of now.
