The collaboration aims to make journeys more productive
Who remembers Hollywood movies like Men In Black and I,Robot? What was common in these movies? If your answer is Will Smith, then you are correct. But, there was something else that caught our imagination and whirled it around in our heads. It was, of course, the car of the future. Let’s forget about the weapons of mass destruction in the boot of the car and just focus on the in-car tech which, while on the move, allows you to work or relax as per your convenience.
Hollywood imagined it and automakers are working towards it. A few months back, we learnt that Swedish automaker Volvo Cars has joined hands with American tech-giant Microsoft to jointly work for the future of automotive industry. Both the companies made it perfectly clear that they are specifically targeting to create a productive work environment while on the move. Well, it looks like they have made the first breakthrough. Volvo Cars has announced that it will introduce Skype for Business to its new 90 Series cars.
The whole purpose of integrating Skype for Business - a platform used by millions across the globe - with the car’s tech, is to replace tedious tasks like joining or organising conference calls over the phone. Volvo says that in its 90 series cars, people will be able to view and participate in their upcoming meetings without any hassle while being a lot more safer on the move.
Such developments promise a very exciting future for the automobile industry. The duo is working towards integrating most of the work-related Microsoft tools in all Volvo cars of the future. For example, linking Microsoft Exchange, calender and Cortana to Volvo’s on-board GPS navigation will help synchronize meetings or official stopovers. Once commanded, the GPS navigation will automatically route the passenger accordingly to complete the day’s work in the most productive way. Further advancement in technologies will see Volvo Cars communicating with the infrastructure of the city to carve out the quickest way to the passenger’s destination.
