Update: There has been a lot of revamps and upgraded versions of popular car seen at the Auto Expo 2016, but the German automaker Volkswagen brought out a new model dubbed as Volkswagen Ameo. This new car would be entering the sub-4 metre compact sedan category, a segment which already has a lot of competitors in the form of Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and Chevrolet Sail. Made for India, Volkswagen Ameo looks beautiful and will be available in two engine options including 1.2 litre diesel 3 cylinder MPI petrol and the TDI diesel with 1.5 litre capacity. VW India group got lucky with their recent hit and trial with Vento/Rapid diesel DSG. Looking at the positive response, don’t be surprised to see diesel variants of the upcoming compact sedan from VW India is made available with the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch auto box! The vehicle will be officially revealed at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in February.
It is pretty obvious that the compact sedan will share Polo’s powertrains as both the engines - 1.2-liter MPI 3-Cylinder petrol and 1.5-liter TDi diesel fall under the excise duty limitations. Since Vento also uses this engine in 105 PS guise, it will get the 90 PS version similar to the one used in Polo and Polo Cross. Now, considering the popularity of the Vento diesel DSG, VW may offer their dual-clutch automatic with the 90 PS version of the 1.5-liter TDi with in the upcoming compact sedan. If this happens, Polo is also likely to be benefited from it, becoming the first hatch in the segment to get dual-clutch automatic with diesel. Looking at the rising demands for diesel automatics in the country this update will surely brighten the prospects for these vehicles.

Coming to its competitors, recently launched Figo Aspire also offers dual-clutch automatic, however, only with the 1.5-liter TiVCT petrol. Currently, Tata Zest F-Tronic is the only compact sedan in the segment that offers diesel automatic. Having said this, it an AMT (Automated-Manual Transmission). Let us just hope VW offers it, as they have the engine and transmission here. Stay Tuned.
