Xcent-Grand i10-SantaFe effect; Hyundai sales rise to 12.8%

Hyundai Motors witnessed a growth of 12.8 percent in domestic market sales in the month of May 2014. Xcent was certainly the sales magnet last month accompanied by Grand i10 and the new Santa-Fe. The company sold 36,205 domestic units in the month of May'14 compared to 32,102 units in May'13. Hyundai Xcent was launched in March'14 and since its inception the car is doing wonders for the Korean manufacturer. The company sold 6663 units of Xcent and 9612 units of Grand i10 in the month of April'14, acquiring second position in their respective segment - after Swift and Swift Dzire. The new Santa-Fe is also going strong compared to its predecessor. The export sales of Hyundai India witnessed a drop of 37.3 % last month.

Hyundai will introduce the nex-gen i20 by the year end; the company is currently testing the new i20 on Indian as well as global turfs, the car has been spotted numerous times. The all-new i20 is expected to greet the world at Paris Motor Show this October. Soon after the Paris debut, the hatch will be launched in India. The car will boast several new equipment add-on, already the current i20 is one of the best in the segment when it comes to equipment list and features. The nex-gen i20 is also expected to get new powertrains considering the current trend of downsizing petrol engines and adding turbo to it. The petrol variant is likely to be powered by 1.0 liter Kappa T-Gdi turbo charged petrol motor. However, the current diesel engine might be retained in the upcoming vehicle.
Hyundai is India's second largest automaker after Maruti Suzuki and currently, the Koreans sells vehicle in almost every segment. Their line-up includes 5 hatchbacks, 4 sedans and one premium SUV. Apart from this promising portfolio, the company is also planning to enter the rising compact SUV segment to lock horns with Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and upcoming Mahindra's S101. In future, Hyundai will increase its reach to newer segment like MPV and others as well.
