Just months after getting the ‘‘ absolutely safe’’ tag from its parent Tata Motors, one more brand new Tata Nano went up in flames. The incident took place at a car parking in the National Capital, on Friday. According to reports, the driver of the car managed to get out of the car after seeing a series of sparks and in just a few minutes the brand new car turned into a charred frame after burning-out fiercely.
According to driver of the car, Patrick John, he was waiting in the car after parking it and suddenly sparks started coming out from the back side of the car where the engine of the car is located. The car belongs to a Supreme Court advocate. John added that he is happy that he managed to leap out of the car in time and he shudders to think what might have happened otherwise, since it was all over so fast. According to John, the entire car was destroyed in two minutes flat.
It is to be mentioned here that similar kind of incidents took place in Mumbai and Vadodara in the starting of this year which forced the company to launch an inquiry in to find-out the reasons of these fire incidents. After completing its investigations in the month of May 2010, the company had stated that these accidents were due to unrelated reasons and termed the car as ‘‘ absolutely safe’’. The company has appointed an inspection team that would inspect the remaining of the vehicle and find the reasons behind this fire incident.
Meanwhile, the company is all set to sell the Tata Nano off the shelves starting from next month in India.
