Audi, it seems has a flare for the dramatic. In keeping with the recent tradition of surprise soft launches, Audi has launched the crossover SQ5 TDI at the 24 Hours Le Mans race. The first ‘S’ model to come with a Bi-TDI (Bi-Turbocharged Direct Injection) 3.0-litre diesel engine, the S Q5 produces up to 313bhp and 650Nm of flat torque between 1,450 & 2,800rpm. It is capable of touching the 100kmph mark within 5.1 seconds.
The S Q5’s engine is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission which transmits the cars power to a Quattro all-wheel-drivetrain. The wheels are 20-inch alloys shod in 255/45 rubbers.
The S Q5 comes with a sports option suspension capable of lowering itself by 30 mm to improve the handling of the car. Audi has also added a new-fangled feature to this car in the form of a sound actuator that pumps the exhaust notes into the interior of the car for added aesthetic appeal.
The S Q5 will come with two choices of body paint - Estoril Blue and Panther Black. The interior doesn’t seem to have been tampered with much. The S Q5 interior is mostly dominated by black inlays along with a sprinkling of the ‘S’ badge in all the nooks and crannies.
The seats are sports-edition leather Alcantara and the steering wheel has been modified along the lines of a new sports steering.
Bookings for the Audi SQ5 will start from October this year with deliveries slated for early 2013, but it is unclear whether this car will come to India.
