Audi is set to initiate the development of its first MPV which might arrive in 2016. The minivan is expected to be on a longer and wide modular MQB platform architecture of the Volkswagen Group. The same platform is used for the Audi A3 as well and also for the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Mk7 models. It’s expected to be using the “V” mark for the series and might be names “V3” or “V4”.
Speaking to Autocar Magazine UK, Peter Schwarzenbauer, the Chief for Sales and Marketing said that company is looking at a minivan which will have sporty appearance and will be offered in six as well as seven seat options. Like mentioned previously, the MPV might not be like a true MPV in terms of looks and instead be more like a high-roof version of the A4 Avant with two rows of seats.
The Audi MPV is likely to have a turbocharged diesel and petrol units along with a probable hybrid engine. The engine lineup might be the same as the A3. There are no details revealed about it by Audi yet, so for now, we’ll just have to work with the limited information.
