The entry-level 5 Series gets a dash of zing! The 520d is now available in the 'M Sport' trim, with prices starting at Rs 54 Lakh (ex-showroom, pan India). What do you get extra over the standard saloon? Let's take a peek:

The 520d gets a set of new bumpers and side skirts, just like its bigger-engine'd sibling, the 530d. The front is more aggressive thanks to the pronounced air intakes on the M5-inspired bumper. The profile gets side-skirts, new 18-inch alloy wheels, and a tiny '//M' badge on the front fender. The rear wraps up the aesthetic update, courtesy a new bumper with a black diffuser and a 'black chrome' exhaust tip. The saloon will be available in three shades, namely Alpine White, Mediterranean Blue and Carbon Black.

Everything else about the 520d remains as is, including the kit on offer and the configuration of the engine. The interiors can be had in either black or beige (with black or beige stitching) and continue to get all goodies that the Luxury Line variant of the sedan has. Features include leather upholstery, electrically adjustable driver and co-driver seats, iDrive with navigation and dual-zone climate control. In case you need to remind yourself you're driving the M Sport variant, you get an M multifunction steering (with paddle shifts) and some badging on the door sills as well.

The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel motor remains unchanged, that produces 190PS of power, and 400Nm of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims a 0-100kmph time of 7.7 seconds, and a top speed of 233kmph.

The new M Sport variant will be locally produced in Chennai, alongside the standard 520d and the 530d. BMW recently launched a petrol-powered 5 Series as well, the 520i — that is available as a direct import. Notably, the next-generation of the sedan is already in the works, and is expected to debut at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show.
