Ford introduced near production ready Everest Concept in the ongoing Bangkok Motor Show in Thailand. The SUV was flaunting the “Sunset Flare” - an orange hue at the show. The SUV was similar to the concept the company showcased in Australia last year but witnessed subtle changes. The production version based on this will replace the Endeavour in India under the Ford's promise of 'One Ford'. Endeavour has been aging from quite a while. Ford India introduced Endeavour back in 2003 and since then, the pullman has received two brief updates include a new engine one but the vehicle hasn't received any major update inside-out. Ford sold Endeavour as Everest in other markets including some countries in Asia.
Matt Bradley, president of Ford ASEAN Division, commented at the event: “The Ford Everest Concept shows the bold new direction that we envision for a mid-size, seven-seat SUV that has been designed for ASEAN and global markets”.
As far as the design is concerned the new Endeavour features an inverted trapezoidal grille with swept-back horizontally placed headlamps flanked around the grille. The side profile of the vehicle is a new territory compared to the existing Endeavour (which is rather boxy), the new SUV features curvy silhouette with prominent wheel arches. At the back, it gets wrap-around tail lamps ditching the Christmas tree profile in the current one. A large chrome appliqué runs in between the tail lamps embedded with 'Everest'. At the front and back the car gets silver bash guards with fog lamp integration.
Speaking of the engines, the new Ford machine is expected to share the current 3.0 litre TDCI diesel unit but expect the engine to get up-rated for more power and torque; a competely new engine can be a possibility too. The new SUV will cross swords with the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero and Ssangyong Rexton amongst other. Expect the car to launch in 2015 along with the Figo compact sedan and hatchback.
